About Application

Eligibility
The Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (the Competition) is open to pianists born on or after January 1, 1991.
Application Period
Open: February 1 (Monday), 2021
Close: March 31 (Wednesday), 2021 at 24:00 (Japan time)

Procedure

Applications can only be made online.
Applicants must prepare the following data files (1) to (4), enter the required items in their “My page” created on the Competition’s official website (www.hipic.jp) and upload the data files.
The contents of the data files can be modified/updated during the application period (from February 1 to March 31, 2021).

  • A performance video file of the repertoire for Preliminary Selection (file format must be MP4, AVI, MOV or WMV)
  • An image file of a recent glossy color photograph (300dpi or higher, front facing, chest up)
  • A PDF file of a passport or an official document that contains the applicant’s name, nationality and date of birth
  • A PDF file of letters of recommendation (any format is acceptable) from two eminent musicians, at least one of whom must be specialized in piano

Payment of Entry Fee

The entry fee of 10,000 yen must be paid in Japanese yen by the application closing date.
The entry fee is payable by credit card via the entry fee payment form on the Competition’s official website.

Notes

  • Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.
  • Incomplete applications or applications which do not contain all the necessary information and accompanying items will not be considered for Preliminary Selection.
  • Applicants should contact the Secretariat if they should not receive a confirmation email of receipt of their application within a week of submission.
  • Entry fees will not be returned under any circumstances.
