Answer

Repertoire for Preliminary Selection (3-2-2)

Q1.   Do I have to play etudes by both Chopin and Lisz, or an etude by one of these two composers?

A   You can choose either Chopin's or Liszt's etude.

Repertoire for the 1st stage (7-1-3)

Q2.   Is 'Variations on a Theme of Paganini by Brahms' regarded as Etude?

A   It is not regarded as Etude.

Q3.   Is it acceptable to play the same piece(s) in the 1st and 2nd stage as those played in Preselection ?

A   It is acceptable to replay those pieces.

Q4.   Should I omit 'repetition' icluded in each piece required for all stage-by-stage repertoire, or should play repetition as well?

A   Basically 'repetition' is not acceptable, however, you may include it where indispensable in relation to structure of repertoire, such as Variations on Theme or Sonatas. 'Including repetition or not' can reveal your knowledge or sensitivity in music, therefore, it is very important to consider programming carefully bearing 'time allowance for each stage' into mind.

Chamber Music (7-3-1)

Q5.   Is there 'precise time allowance' for each piece?

A   There is not 'precise time allowance'. It depends on your speed. You will have a chance to rehearse together with the string musicians in advance in order to make a final adjustment. The important point is that you have to coordinate Chamber music and your own recital within 70 min.
